Maine Coon looks a bit like Lee Marvin in Paint Your Wagon

Image
A similarity, I'd say. Whatever, this Maine Coon has a great face.  It is the side whiskers which are unusual, and which give this cat his character. He has human face, and they are popular at the moment. And this boy has very strong lynx tipped ears. They are like a brush. His muzzle is very solid and very much a signature feature of the Maine Coon. The five defining features of the Maine Coon are in my view: Lynx tipped ears Pronounced and 'square' muzzle Large domestic cat Fur sticking out between the toes Ruff Maine Coon credit: Reddit.com. Lee Marvin is from onceuponatimeinawestern.com. And there is a bit of a trend to artificially breed Maine Coons with human faces as they are interesting and therefore popular. This is one example. A grumpy old man face which is often how they look when they are humanized. Or they are like Yoda from Star Wars. I think this baby is Russian bred. They do like their humanized Maine Coons. There is a large cat fancy in Russia. Shame that ...

Yoda Maine Coon

Image
One of those Yoda Maine Coons have surfaced again on Twitter. They are amazing. Wise beyond their years.  Yoda Maine Coon. Montage by MikeB from images in the public domain. There is nothing more to say except that Yoda Maine Coon is a human creation as is Yoda. The cat was created through artificial selection as opposed to natural selection (Darwin's theory). And Yoda was created by Stuart Freeborn for Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic.

Maine Coon kitten with a hint of Yoda

Image
This is a Maine Coon with a wise, knowing smile. He has a faint hint of Yoda from the Star Wars saga. Maine Coon kitten with a hint of Yoda. Screenshot from Pinterest video. This little Maine Coon, a kitten I guess, is in that stable of Maine Coon cats who give us the distinct impression that there is a human being inside trying to get out. This little fella has a very faint but wise smile on his face. He looks at the camera as if he understands humans. He's a bit bemused by human behaviour and so he should be because it can be bizarre at times. He's very passive as he is held up on one hand by the breeder, who is also the photographer. She videos him using her other hand. He looks directly into the camera without a problem. I wish my cat could do that. When I bring my camera to my eye he runs away. I might just get one shot in before he meows at me as if to say "F off" and then trots off. He thinks I am stealing his soul. That's not the case with this guy. He...

Grey Maine Coon looking wisely human

Image
This is another picture of one of those strangely bizarre and compelling human-faced wise Maine Coons. You may have seen them on the Internet. They look at the camera with complete calm as if they know full well that they are imbued with the wisdom of ages even though they might be only about 12 months old!  These Maine Coons are selectively bred to look like this are little masterpieces and it must have taken many years of artificial breathing i.e. selective breeding to achieve this result. It must have been done with a distinct purpose and objective. It wouldn't happen by accident. Grey Maine Coon looking wisely human. Photo: Twitter. You almost feel that you are looking at a person. I wonder what it is like to live with a cat like this. Does it help the human caretaker to relate better with their domestic cat companion if they look like a person! I know people relate to their domestic cat companions as little people but in this instance you almost are! You would expect them t...

What makes Maine Coon cats special?

Image
It is fairly obvious to me why a lot of people regard the Maine Coon cat as special. They are the biggest domestic cat breed and the biggest domestic cat barring the top end wild cat hybrids such as the F1 Savannah cat. Size counts in the world of cats.  What makes Maine Coon cats special? Size is the answer and this is one of many huge MCs on the internet. They seem to be quite common nowadays. Picture: in  public domain. And there are some fascinatingly huge Maine coon cats featured on the Internet. They look like large dogs. There is a kind of obsession with big domestic cats. But size in any context is important and normally it is big that is better than small.  So it is about humans playing God. It is artificial selection or otherwise known as selective breeding. Nature wouldn't have done this. The original Maine Coon cats would have been like any other domestic cat with medium-long hair. They would have been quite non-descript relative to some of the day's super out...

Young Maine Coon looks wise beyond his years

Image
By photographer Robert Sijka. Great work. This is one of those Maine Coons with a human face and it happens to be a young one who looks wise beyond his years. It's like looking at a human child who has grown up too quickly and will no doubt become a star at something because they are always talented. It's like looking at Mozart but a feline version! The photographer is superb and he has taken many beautiful photographs of Maine Coon cats. Of course, he has been successful in sourcing some wonderful animals. Perhaps he knows a fantastic breeder who has created a long line of beautiful Maine Coons. I don't know but his photographs have been published widely on the Internet. Always adopt from a shelter :)  . I know I am praising a cat breeder and suggesting that you only adopt rescue cats but that is the nature of this: I love great looking cats but my heart is tender for rescues. The latter always wins.
