Picture of 2 young, grey Maine Coons being held

Image
This Maine Coon picture caught my eye. They've got to be siblings. They look young but also very large for their age which is pretty typical of Maine Coons. They are said to keep growing for the first four years of lives. The picture was probably taken a few years ago. I'd expect them to adults and in nice homes. And I also expect that they'll be very large domestic cats with a real presence. Picture of 2 young, grey Maine Coons being held. Image in the public domain. In the photograph you can see why the cat fancy always refers to grey (gray) as blue. There is a faint tinge of blue in their coats. The Maine cat can have a massive range of coat colours and patterns. It is recognised by the cat fancy in all colours and divisions of the traditional category.  I have a page which lists all the coat colours! If it interests you, you can see it by clicking on this link . Grey is a diluted 'self' colour (black). Click on the link below to read about self-colours. RELATED:...

QC's Maine Coon cat features in virtual Old Bailey hearing

Image
Naz Hussain QC was conducting a virtual hearing at the Old Bailey from his kitchen! I'm sure this sort of hearing takes place all the time with the modern coronavirus pandemic social isolation rules taking effect across the country. On this occasion - and this can't be unexpected - Naz Hussain's beautiful grey Maine Coon cat meandered into view, lurking in the background before walking onto the keyboard and into frame for the court to see. Naz Hussain QC's Maine Coon 'Columbo'. Photo: Naz Hussain QC. The cat's name is called Columbo and the judge having spotted Columbo asked if the cat was the instructing solicitor for the senior criminal defence barrister, Mr Hussain! This prompted Mr Hussain to jokingly respond by saying that the cat was his replacement junior (i.e. a junior barrister accompanying the QC). Stardom beckoned and Columbo now has a social media webpage: AdvoCat_QC on Twitter which will chronicle Columbo's activities. Apparently there w...

Cute Maine Coon Kitten

Image
This is a nice photograph of a grey tabby and white Maine Coon kitten taken by Flickr photographer;  VirtKitty . Maine Coon Kitten What do I see? I guess what is most noticeable at this young age is what cat fanciers call, "ear furnishings". Ear hair to you and me. One of the distinctive features of the Maine Coon is the tuft of hair that comes out of the ear flap (the external part of the ear). You can see the beginnings of some great ear furnishings! In this photo he is 8 weeks old. Thanks for letting me publish the photo.

Grey Maine Coon

Image
I am cheating here a bit because I know that I don't have a picture of a self (solid) colored grey Maine Coon. They are, it seems, quite rare. But...there is always a but..there are various types of grey and Tootsie, a purebred rescue Maine Coon living with a friend in Atlanta, USA has a grey tabby coat and a bit of smoke! Grey Maine Coon

Image
A grey Maine Coon will often be a grey tabby Maine Coon. The coat will not be even in colouring and without a pattern. I suspect that you are looking for a pure grey coat color like the Russian Blue or Chartreux . The Maine Coon is found in a large range of coat colors and patterns. You will no doubt find a pure grey one somewhere. They are better looking, though, and more Maine Coonish when the coat is a tabby coat and particularly a tabby and white. Below I show a grey tabby Maine Coon. The photo is by Helmi Flick and protected by copyright. The photo on this page is protected by copyright ©.
