Inquisitive dilute ginger tabby male Maine Coon investigates and licks his new 'son'

Image
The title underneath this video on YouTube is, I believe, misleading. It says "Dad saw his Maine Coon son for the first time and was shocked!" I don't see a shocked father but an inquisitive dad who wants to be involved. You see the father licking his "son". And the mother then comes in onto the scene and they recognise each other as parents and then things carry on as normal. The newborn is male because nearly all ginger tabbies are male. There is one remote possibility that the kitten is not the offspring of the cats we see in the video! That's not been mentioned or discussed. But I will presume that they are. The father's coat is a beautiful dilute red tabby. The mother seems to be a silver tabby and the offspring is a ginger tabby. But the issue is how much involvement does a male domestic cat desire in raising offspring? That's what comes to mind here but the situation is somewhat artificial. The father in this instance is involved to a certain ...

Black bombshell Maine Coon Shedoros Mamboo

Image
I believe that this magnificently masculine Maine Coon with blazing, golden eyes from the Shedoros cattery in Germany is a black smoke. He reminds me of Richie, the darling of the internet who also has a black face and white surrounding fur. I believe this to be an unusual characteristic of the black smoke coat type. Black bombshell Maine Coon Shedoros Mamboo. Photo: Shedoros cattery on Facebook. The outstanding feature of this black bombshell is the very masculine face. It is so solid and wide. You know what they say about masculine human faces. Wide male faces are linked to dominance and perceived dominance. I get the feeling that this 'man cat' is dominant or seen as being dominant by other cats. The alpha male. Although I bet that he is very calm and gentle actually. Black bombshell Maine Coon Shedoros Mamboo. Image: Shederos. His ears are not as large as they might be for a head this massive. The triangular, large ears of Maine Coons are one of their identifying features ...

Some genetics for the ginger (red) marble (classic or blotched) tabby Maine Coon male cat

Image
This is a ginger marble tabby Maine Coon. As most ginger tabby cats are male cats I have decided that this is a male cat. In fact, about 80% of ginger tabby cats are male because females have to inherit two copies of the "ginger gene" ( O ). Red classic tabby male Maine Coon cat. Photo in the public domain The marble or classic tabby is also called the "blotched tabby". The geneticists or breeders write down the genotype as A-B-D-mcmc . It differs from the mackerel or striped tabby with the addition of the mcmc allele. The ginger tabby is sometimes called the red tabby. To the best of my knowledge, breeders normally refer to these cats as 'red'. The reference to "ginger" is normally a layperson's description as is marmalade or yellow - see link below. RELATED:  Orange, red, yellow, ginger or marmalade cats . Once again, the pattern may be either mackerel, blotched, spotted or ticked tabby. The hair strands of the coat are coloured by minute...

Maine Coon is all ears and paws with a strong muzzle in-between

Image
This ginger-and-white Maine Coon is all ears and paws surrounding a strong muzzle. Well, that is what I see when I look at the photo. It is an unusual Maine Coon photo. It is like two very tall ears with a ton of 'ear furnishings' (hair in cat fancy language) at one end and large paws at the other. In the middle is cat face with an exaggerated muzzle. Every part of this young, male Maine Coon that makes him a member of this cat breed has been exaggerated through careful artificial selection (selective breeding).  Maine Coon is all ears and paws with a strong square muzzle in-between. Photo: Pinterest. The breeder has taken the breed standard, highlighted the bits which distinguishes this cat from the others and said, 'Let's makes those elements stronger and more noticeable'. And they've succeeded. The ginger gene ' O ' is sex-linked, so I know that this is a male cat. There are some female ginger tabbies (all gingers are tabbies) but they are sterile....
