Film celebrates the life of Bobby Flay's Maine Coon 'Nacho' who recently passed over the rainbow bridge

Boby Flay and Nacho. Image: screenshot from the video on this page which is from Twitter. Here is a nice little video which is on Twitter X of the celebrated and much loved, ginger Maine Coon, Nacho , who recently passed over the rainbow bridge. His caregiver who survives him is Bobby Flay who is as celebrated - or more so - than Nacho. Mr Flay was devastated . The celebrity chef and entrepreneur founded his premium cat food brand in 2021 and named it after his beloved Maine Coon. RELATED POST:  American celebrity chef Bobby Flay named his pet food business after Nacho, his ginger tabby Maine Coon . There are a couple of points worth making at this time: Firstly, Nacho was the tender age of 9 when he died - the average lifespan of cats of this breed is 11 years . Nine years is about half the lifespan of a standard moggie cat. I have not seen the reports on the cause of Nacho's death as yet. If you have, please leave a comment. If not, I will speculate and say that it was almost ce...

Picture of a red tabby Maine Coon with a combed ruff and a big muzzle

Image
Picture of a red tabby Maine Coon with a combed ruff and a big muzzle. Picture: Pinterest. It is a good photograph and a beautiful cat. The cat is very typically Maine Coon, bred slightly to extreme I would argue because the muzzle is very heavy and 'square', more so than you see on the winning Maine Coon show cats on the CFA website. The CFA show cat winners look more delicate than this individual (see below). Nonetheless this is a great cat. I don't think, personally, that Maine Coon owners should comb their cat's ruff as MCs should be natural, like barn cats and not too coiffed. Below is a Maine Coon show cat winner from the CFA website for comparison. RELATED:  What kind of Maine Coon wins competitions ?

Some genetics for the ginger (red) marble (classic or blotched) tabby Maine Coon male cat

Image
This is a ginger marble tabby Maine Coon. As most ginger tabby cats are male cats I have decided that this is a male cat. In fact, about 80% of ginger tabby cats are male because females have to inherit two copies of the "ginger gene" ( O ). Red classic tabby male Maine Coon cat. Photo in the public domain The marble or classic tabby is also called the "blotched tabby". The geneticists or breeders write down the genotype as A-B-D-mcmc . It differs from the mackerel or striped tabby with the addition of the mcmc allele. The ginger tabby is sometimes called the red tabby. To the best of my knowledge, breeders normally refer to these cats as 'red'. The reference to "ginger" is normally a layperson's description as is marmalade or yellow - see link below. RELATED:  Orange, red, yellow, ginger or marmalade cats . Once again, the pattern may be either mackerel, blotched, spotted or ticked tabby. The hair strands of the coat are coloured by minute...

Italian Maine Coon at Show

Image
Maine Coon , a photo by lo.tangelini on Flickr. This is a very interesting looking Italian Maine Coon cat. She (I think the cat is female) looks quite stocky, which is unusual. Although this could be due to the sitting position. Maine Coons are more long and rangy than stocky (cobby in cat fancy language). I am presuming the cat is Italian as she is at an Italian cat show. Sometimes, however you get international visitors. She is red and white tabby . She looks very serious and quite regal. I think she is used to being at cat shows. She has great ear tufts coming from the tips of her ears and you can see that typically there is lots of fur around the toes. She has the classic ruff too. A sort of Maine Coon mane!

Red Maine Coon Cat

Image
Red Tabby Maine Coon - Cat Show Champion - Photo BerylM The red Maine Coon cat is also the orange Maine Coon or ginger or marmalade etc.. They are one and the same. Below is a pic of a very large red Maine Coon. He is a little overweight, yes, but he is also large excluding that. Orange Maine Coon - photo by Zak Greant This picture is cross referenced to large Maine Coon cat because of his size. The cat associations allow a very wide range of colours for the Maine Coon. That is not always the case. Some breeds can only be one color - the Chartreux for example is grey only. "All the ginger, marmalade and red tabby cats display the sex-linked orange gene O ". (Robinson's Genetics). Red Maine Coons are nearly always male cats for the converse reason that calico Maine Coons are nearly always female. Below is a show cat Maine Coon - orange tabby. He has to be a boy! Finally, here are two professionally taken photographs of a red Maine Coon cats: ...
