Classy Mau cat tree is a good fit for a Maine Coon

Image
Classy-looking Mau cat tree. Image: Mau. 'Mau' means meow 💕👍 I was immediately impressed with this cat tree because of its elegant design and the sleeping pods are big enough for most Maine Coons.  For many home owners cat furniture can sometimes detract from the appearance of a room. A lot of people are house proud. They put a lot of effort into making their home attractive. And they like cats! They have to ensure that the latter does not detract from the former objective. This classy-looking cat tree might be the answer for some. @meatballthemainec Meatball loves this @Mau cat tree but he refuses to share. #mainecoonkitten #mainecoonsoftiktok #mainecooncat #cats #moderncatfurniture ♬ Monkeyshine-JP - Lt FitzGibbons Men The only possible downside is the price: $389. And they may only be available in the US. It is always nice to see cat products that have been nicely designed. Although whether the design appeals or not is in the eye of the beholder. --------- Pleas...

Choose a high-quality metal comb for your precious Maine Coon

Image
I  don't live with a Maine Coon 😢😒 but I live with a regular, tabby moggie (good-looker) with a short coat and I use a metal comb on him. In fact, I use a flea comb when combing him top to bottom daily. Flea combs have very tightly spaced metal teeth and nicely rounded ends to the teeth. He loves it and asks for a session. He has his own personal way to ask. Here are some thoughts on combs for the Maine Coon (MC). Cat lovers know that the Maine Coon coat needs maintenance to avoid matts and tangles. My research from cat groomers and Maine Coon owners indicate that it is wise to buy a good or high-quality metal comb for your Maine Coon. In addition you can also buy a special detangler comb.  High-quality products for a high-quality cat, right!? 😎 If you have splashed the cash on a great MC don't skimp on combs. Also it is important that the comb is kind on the skin. In fact you want the combing to massage the skin and thereby feel nice. Don't assume that your MC will enjo...

Optimal size of a Maine Coon's litter tray!

Image
This one is easy and the post will be very brief! The experts say that a domestic cat's litter tray should be about 1.5 times the length of the cat from nose tip to base of tail. The world's longest domestic cat has almost invariably been a Maine Coon and the record holders measure around 46 inches from nose tip to the END of the tail. A Maine Coon's tail is around 12-16 inches.  Most Maine Coons are not as large as the world record holders for obvious reasons. I'll say that the average length from nose tip to end of tail of a large Maine Coon would be around 42 inches less 12 (the tail) making 30 inches. A friend of mine, Doug, has said there are no 45-inch stainless steel litter trays on the market! If that is true this page is more theoretical and actual. The answer is to get one that is as large as possible. That's all you can do. Although I am referring to very MCs. There are many smaller cats with less exotic needs. Therefore, the optimal litter tray for a Ma...

Cleaning up poop matting for Maine Coons? Shampoo recommendation?

Image
On my personal mini-survey poop (and sometimes pee) stuck on the fur around the bum of a Maine Coon is a fairly if not a very common problem ( click this link to see what I had to say about it a little while ago ). Grooming Maine Coons around the bottom is not uncommon either. It is a proactive measure to stop poop sticking to those pesky hairs which is annoyingly messy to clear up. Obviously, it needs to be done with great caution perhaps professionally it you know of a good groomer. Be careful with groomers as things can go wrong. Available on Amazon where it have received over 8,000 reviews at 4.5 which is about as good as it gets. Picture: Amazon. It is sad that this majestic domestic cat is so burdened with such a mundane and unpleasant problem.  One Maine Coon owner on the social media site Reddit.com asked in despair for advice about a good neutral shampoo to help with the clean-up. By 'neutral' I mean and he means a neutral pH, not too alkaline (high pH) in order to avo...

Should Maine Coons wear collars?

Image
Should Maine Coon cats wear collars? It's a question posed by the owner of the website Maine Coon Central and I think the question is not a great one to be perfectly frank but it does just about need to be addressed which is why I am writing this article. Maine Coon cat wearing a collar. Photo by Warren Photographic (modified by MikeB) and used with his express permission. You could ask the same question about any domestic cat that goes outside. Cat collars normally contain an identification tag. Cats that go outside might get lost. The ID tag can help them be reunited with their owner without recourse to having to scan for a microchip. The thing is though that it is probably exceptional for a Maine Coon cat to be allowed to go outside unsupervised. Quite rarely people take them outside on a harness and lead to allow them to explore the outside and be mentally stimulated. However, under these circumstances you don't need a collar with an ID tag for obvious reasons (unless they ...

Royal Mail feature a Maine Coon cat on a stamp

Image
Royal Mail feature a Maine Coon cat and other breeds. Image: Royal Mail For international readers, the UK's Royal Mail is the country's postal service.  They have been in existence since 1516 believe it or not! Amazing. They have the royal warrant. They have introduced some new stamps featuring purebred cats including the Maine Coon and: Bengal, Siamese, British Shorthair, a random-bred tabby cat, a ginger tabby cat and a black-and-white random bred cat as well. A nice selection. I just noticed that there's actually a stamp featuring a tabby-and-white random-bred cat as well. In all there are 8 different stamps. As you can see the Maine Coon is a grey tabby and white; probably the best coat for this breed whose origins are in the barns of Maine, USA hundreds of years ago. You can buy the stamps as a collector item in a range of formats including as sheets of both first and second class stamps in a presentation pack. You can also buy postcards with the stamps on them with ...

Stunningly huge Maine Coon taken out in cat stroller to New York City

Image
I have one of these cat strollers ( see it heading a website by clicking on this link ). And it is particularly nice, partly for that reason, to see this man take his outstanding and enormous Maine Coon cat in a stroller into New York City. He is a laid-back cat and his name is Samson for obvious reasons. The man who owns Samson -- wrong words, lives with and is the servant of -- wants to make him as famous as possible and so he has an Instagram account with over 100,000 followers.  Samson is a huge Maine Coon living in an apartment in NYC who gets taken out in a cat stroller to the delight of the residents. The stroller is behind him on the balcony . Screenshot from the video below. And of course, there is this YouTube video and I'm sure other outlets which help to promote this beautiful chocolate brown bicolour coated Maine Coon. He seems to be living in an apartment in NYC. In the photo you can see the stroller on the balcony in the background.
