Australian Maine Coon breeder talks about the breed and her champion cat in a video
This video is nicely instructional for people interested in adopting a Maine Coon.
Here we have a very nice little video. It shows an Australian lady (an amusing woman) interviewing an Australian woman who is a Maine Coon cat breeder. The interview appears to have taken place at a cat show where this beautiful 10 kg (22 pounds) male Maine Coon cat has won two titles that day at this cat show.

And as is so typical of Maine Coon cats he sits there completely chilled out minding his own business while they talk about him. This is a strange place to this cat but no problems. He just wants to sit down and chill.

How many times have we seen Maine Coon cats chilled and super-calm like this? I've seen them all the time. And it must point to a personality for this breed which is in general calm and collected. This is a wonderful trait.
The breeder says that Maine Coon cats are nearly always and should be indoor cats and with that lifestyle they can expect to live for about 15-16 years.
The breeder calls the Maine Coon are 'mini-lions'. She calls the Maine Coon one of the three forest cats and the largest. The other two (which she does not mention by breed name) are the Norwegian Forest Cat and the Siberian. These breeds are often bracketed together and may have overlapping origins.

She says, "everything about them is boxy. They have a boxy muzzle..." This is true. The muzzle is very strong and square compared to other breeds. It is a defining appearance feature of this breed as are their tall, triangular ears.
And the tail is long to be in balance with the long body she said. The CFA standard asks for balance in the cat's conformation. Nothing should be extreme.
I hope you enjoy the video. If it does not work, I'm sorry but I can't control its existence as it held on Facebook and embedded here.
