'Maxie' Maine Coon always greets his human with a big head butt scent exchange

Maxie is one of those social media Maine Coon celebrities. His preferred platform is Instagram. What I like about this tabby MC (Maine Coon) is that he always greets his human companion with a very distinctive head butt. 'Maxie' Maine Coon always greets his human with a big head butt scent exchange. Screenshot. So what's going on? In the cat world, this is scent exchange. He is depositing his scent from his scent glands under the skin in his head onto his 'owner', the guy who makes the videos. While Maxie deposits his scent onto his human, he simultaneously picks up the scent (body odour) of his human as it is deposited on his head. RELATED: Cat skin glands for kids So human and MC merge their scent and become one. They are together. It reinforces the relationship. They become a 'unit' in the world of cats as cats use body scent as a way of identifying others, cats, dogs or people. I think cats use the smell of another as a way of confirming that they are wh...

Ecstatic Maine Coon allowed to sleep on bed

Image
This telling post from the mumsnet.com website says a lot about the necessity - if you can accept the slight disruption to your sleep - of letting your Maine Coon cat join you on the bed at night. And that is especially true right now in the UK as we are going through a 'cold snap' (-4 degrees Celsius last night).  Maine Coon on bed leaving little room for their human companion. Image in the public domain (believed). But it is much more than about the warmth that cats crave. It is all about 'scent soakers' to use the words of Jackson Galaxy, the well-known cat behaviourist. Cats love the smell of the human bed. It is full of human scent. That's what they crave too. Here is the mumsnet.com post I referred to: "My Maine Coon was allowed to sleep on the bed last night. And he was ecstatic! Any time I reached out to touch him (to check I wasn’t going to roll on him) he started purring sooo hard. All night. It was so sweet. I’ve never had a Maine Coon before and he ...

Maine Coon picks up owner's body language to come over and say 'Hi!' (with a head butt)

Image
Cats head butt when greeting in a friendly way. This is a good example from a Maine Coon (MC). He is called over from his cat tree and obliges promptly. The bloke did not call his cat vocally but with his body language by lying down. His MC immediately picked up the signal and came. Clearly many times in the past this has happened and the MC remembers the pleasantness of it and wants to do it again. Maine Coon responds to owner's body language to come over and say hello with a massive head butt. Screenshot. The first thing he does is head butt the man's face. This is a video from maxiecoon on TikTok. The allow others to download their videos as it helps to spread the word.
