Maine Coon has the most amazing 'tufted paws' that you'll ever see

Image
I am or was slightly bemused by this Maine Coon video. She is a beautiful Maine Coon cat and she is kneading a fluffy cover of some sort. The cover is made of a white fabric probably fleece. Fleece doesn't normally come loose.  Maine Coon has the most amazing 'tufted paws' that you'll ever see. Screenshot. I say that because this female Maine Coon has so much fur on her feet that it makes me almost believe that she has picked up some of the fabric from the cover that she is kneading. I don't know but have you ever seen so much fur on the feet of a Maine Coon cat?  We know that the Maine Coon is known to have a lot of fur sticking between their toes. It is one of the signatures of this popular domestic cat breed. But if you look at the video carefully you will see an inordinate amount of it the stuck to her feet which does not seem plausible. I don't see how it can be like that. It seems impossible. But she is a hairy Maine Coon cat! And that is the reason why sh...

The worst thing about Maine Coons is - wait for it - their fur

Image
She should know as she is addicted to collecting Maine Coons and she admits it! She is complimented on her clean and tidy house by visitors as she likes it like that BUT (big but) it takes a lot of work. She is organised and has the equipment and commitment to keep her home fur-free. It gets everywhere she says. She does not like it. She has a leather sofa so the fur does not stick to it. I bet it clumps up into tumbleweed and blows down the corridors. Hell, I don't live with a Maine Coon and my shorthaired cat sheds enough to create tumbleweed fur balls and sausages. You get used to it and even brushing and combing does not stop the shedding. One of the lady's Maine Coons who likes her a lot. Screenshot. She does not say if her Maine Coon shedding slows in autumn and winter and it might but I don't think the seasonal changes in shedding (because of more or less light) applies to her and her family because I am pretty sure that they are all indoor cats. Indoor cats shed e...

How common is poop stuck to Maine Coon butt fur?

Image
How often do Maine Coon cat owners have to deal with poop stuck to their fur? Faeces stuck to the fur on the backside of a Maine Coon cat appears to be an issue which is not talked about much, but I have bumped into it on a social media website and would therefore like to mention it here. Ideally, I'd like to hear from people living with Maine Coons and other longhaired cats too. I can see the problem! This is a Maine Coon rear end. The photo comes from the Mütyür & Pindúr website on tumblr. The reason why I am mentioning it is because it appears to be quite a common problem for Maine Coon cat caregivers. How big a problem? I think I have an answer.  On a page of the Reddit.com website there are 35 comments to the question: "How often do you guys have to deal with poop stuck to fur?" And the question is asked on the Maine Coon channel of the website. Mini survey The comments act as a kind of survey. Only two out of the 35 commenters said that they had never had this p...

Well-tufted paws of the Maine Coon

Image
The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) states in their breed standard that the paws of a Maine Coon should be 'well-tufted'. I wanted to confirm because this picture of a Maine Coon has the kind of paws that the breed standard demands as they are very well-tufted; the fur sticks out between the toes in a haphazard way. Well-tufted paws of the Maine Coon. Photo: Pinterest. The breed standard demands paws that are well-tufted. LEGS and FEET: legs substantial, wide set, of medium length, and in proportion to the body. Forelegs are straight. Back legs are straight when viewed from behind. Paws large, round, well-tufted. Five toes in front; four in back.

Thick Maine Coon coat can easily become matted if left unattended

Image
It could be argued that a disadvantage in being the human caregiver of a magnificent Maine Coon cat is that you have to take steps to prevent the coat from matting. Such a dense, shaggy coat is great for outdoor cats in cold climates but in temperate climates it is not so much that the cat can become overheated but that the fur can become matted.   Thick Maine Coon coat can easily become matted if left unattended. Not for this stupendous Maine Coon, however. But proactive steps are easier, safer and more enjoyable for the cat. Photo: Pinterest. Matting is problematic and mats should be removed. If they aren't removed, they will become bigger as we've seen on the Internet with some incredible cases of extreme matting through neglect. Mats take up more and more hair and they start to pinch the skin which can cause irritation and even pain. They can also lead to infection an infestation of the skin. It is said that you rarely see long-haired cats in feral colonies. This, it is...
