The researchers say that there is a "lack of data on companion animals such as cats and dogs in their relationship to human DNA transfer." The researcher's co-author Heidi Monkman said: "These companion animals can be highly relevant in assessing the presence and activities of the inhabitants of the household, or any recent visitors to the scene." 20 cats participated in the research from 15 different homes and with the owners all having different levels of interactions with their cats.
