Charming Maine Coon travels in car without seatbelt

Image
Screenshot. The title might sound a bit weird but it isn't. I'll explain but before I do we should enjoy this charming video. The Maine Coon is on the front passenger seat intensely interested in what is going on outside the vehicle. My guess is that this is an indoor cat that doesn't get out in the car a lot so it is nice to see him/her being mentally stimulated and loving every minute of it. But there is this seatbelt observation and I am not being critical because if I were to be critical I'd be a hypocrite as I have allows my cat to do this as well. As for seat belts for cats, it is advisable to attach the harness to a seatbelt for human passengers to prevent a cat from flying around the cabin if the driver has to stop suddenly. And if the cat is in the rear they can be thrown forward and impact the windscreen or the people in the front.  It is wise to harness up a cat who is a passenger. There are various ways one of which is to attach the harness to the seat belt ...

Are Maine Coons outdoor cats?

Image
Maine Coon cats can be outdoor cats provided that they are on a leash attached to a good harness for security. Rarely, a Maine Coon cat might be an indoor/outdoor cat with permission to roam freely around their home at their will, unsupervised, but if that situation occurs it will be exceptional and only after their owner has decided that it is safe to do so. Taking your Maine Coon outdoors on a leash is the best way for them to enjoy the outdoors. There are very few circumstances under which a Maine Coon cat should be allowed to roam freely outside without supervision. That's my personal opinion because this cat is just too glamorous but it does depend upon the owner. To some owners, perhaps, the Maine Coon cat isn't that glamorous. They might not be fearful that their cat might be stolen. There may be no roads and therefore very little chance of a road traffic accident. The owner can't see a problem. There may be no predators of cats where she lives. And also, some owners...

Letting your full-time indoor Maine Coon into the garden (backyard) for the first time

Image
MC, Foxie, steps out into the garden for the first time. Screenshot. This is an interesting little video for me. It shows the initial caution when the Maine Coon (MC) - Foxie - is allowed into the garden followed by intense curiosity. The caution comes from what I'd describe as 'feline agoraphobia' when they are kept indoors all their lives.  They are used to the security that the home provides. The area beyond the walls is alien territory; both interesting but potentially dangerous. It is a mix of emotions: excitement and slight anxiety. @maxiecoon 🪴Plants vs Foxie 😸 Let’s garden adventures begin!🐾 🧡Foxie enjoys being in a garden 😸 We are not sure what plants we have there, so we’ll just wait and see what will grow 👀 (if Foxie doesn’t destroy them 🤦🏻‍♀️, he tries to sit in a planter when he has a chance 😸🪴). As previous owners of this house also have cats, these plants should be safe ✨ Anyways, Foxie is more interested in insects and bugs living there 👅 No u...

Air pollutant health risks to Maine Coon cats inside the modern home

Image
This is about people and cats living in modern homes . I'm going to refer to an article in The Times newspaper today which is about the UK, but it refers to all modern homes. And the reason why modern homes are relevant to this discussion is because there is less ventilation in them. There are less gaps and holes around windows and in other parts of the home which provide natural ventilation.  Maine Coon lounges on a sofa. Are they safe from pollutants? Image believed to be in the public domain. The modern home is sealed up with double glazing for, ironically, environmental reasons. The idea is to keep the heat in to minimise the use of energy which at the moment often comes from gas, oil and coal, dug up from the ground and producing carbon dioxide when burnt which warms up the planet. It's ironic, too, that the urban environment is becoming slightly healthier because of electric vehicles (EVs) but relatively speaking inside the home is becoming more polluted. Tackling indoo...
