Are ginger Maine Coons rare?

Red and ginger The title refers to 'ginger' coated Maine Coons. Firstly, the word 'ginger' means 'red' in the cat fancy. The word 'red' is used by the cat fancy and 'ginger' or 'yellow' is used by owners! Both the solid red coat and the red tabby coat are listed under the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) breed standard and are therefore both accepted by this premier cat association in the US.  Red (ginger) tabby Maine Coon. Image in the public domain. Breeders So, it's just a question of finding a breeder who is breeding solid red or red tabby Maine Coons from foundation cats that are red tabbies. And in searching for such a breeder it might be true that there are few breeders creating red Maine Coons.  I don't know how many breeders are breeding the red and red tabbies. If there are very few then the answer to the question in the title is that they are rare! But it will only be because breeders don't want to breed them. Ho...

Parisian Maine Coon 'crème et blanc'

PARIS: This is a handsome Parisian Maine Coon described by his human caretaker as: "My little lynx Jiyuu of Roswell Maine Coon crème et blanc 19 mois mâle". The translation is: his name is Jiyuu of Roswell. His coat is cream and white. He is 19 months old. Oh, and his is damned handsome. The photo is by his guardian: Lunatique- girl . I think the main colour is more milk chocolate, cappuccino or fawn! Anyway, super-looking cat. Is he a cream tabby? I think so.

I cannot shake off the thought that this glamorous cream-coloured Maine Coon is female but perhaps I am stereotyping. It's just the colour and the fluffiness of the coat and the tendril whiskers which lead me down that route. Cream tabby Maine Coon. Photo: Pinterest. This is a very beautiful Maine Coon. The coat is not white but, as stated, cream-coloured. I don't think that that is an official colour under the breed standard for this cat. Let me check. Well, I'm wrong. I have just checked the CFA breed standard and it states that one of the solid colours is cream and it is described as " one level shade of buff cream, without markings. Sound to the roots. Nose leather and paw pads: pink." Although looking more carefully she has faint tabby markings (see the forehead).
