Picture of smudgy, snow-white, huge Maine Coon with black eyeliner, nose and feet

Image
A stunning Maine Coon cat. That's about all you can say. The contrast of the black detailing and the snow-white coat with some smudges is what does it for me and of course the impressive size. You can see the faint, ghost tabby markings which I presume have been washed out by the dominant white gene. Strangely the eyes are not blue. Normally white cats have blue eyes or odd eye colour because the gene that removes the pigment from the hair strands does the same thing to the irises of the eyes or one eye. That leaves the eye blue due to the refraction of white light passing through the eye.  RELATED:  Why are kittens’ eyes blue ? It is the 'nose leather' as breeders call it (the end of the nose) that is black. Actually, there is a bit of unpigmented nose leather there as well but a stunning cat. Just a great cat. Another one. We see a lot of super impressive Maine Coons on the internet. We are spoiled for choice. I have no idea where the photo was taken. It is probably Ameri...

Chubby-cheeked white Maine Coon kitten

Image
Chubby-cheeked white Maine Coon kitten. Picture: Pinterest and therefore in the public domain. This is an interesting looking Maine Coon kitten.  All Maine Coon kittens tend to look quite rounded and chunky. They become more elongated and elegant when the grow up so we can expect to see this sort of chubbiness but this is exceptional. The ears are already very impressive with huge lynx tips. The muzzle is already pronounced. As expected in a white cat, the eyes are a clear blue. It looks like he or she has rouge on his cheeks as if she has put on makeup.  This is just the vestiges of a pattern that has been masked by the dominant white gene which removes melanin (pigmentation) from the hair strands. White cats don't have white pigment in the hairs but no pigment. A super-looking cat who's no doubt made someone very happy and proud. Handsome, all-white, male, giant Maine Coon, Tihon, likes to cuddle

Image
This handsome, all-white, male, giant Maine Coon likes to cuddle his female human companion a lot. He doesn't like to be alone and he follows her around wherever she goes. This includes going to the bathroom together which is normal for the domestic cat.  The bathroom is full of the smells of the human! Cats love that. It is like 'in-your-face' human presence. He lives in Moscow, Russia. You will see a lot of very large and highly impressive Maine Coons in Russia because the breeders tend to do an amazing job with their cats . They sometimes breed more impressive Maine Coons than the Americans which must be a bit galling to the Americans because this is an American cat or that's what they like to claim. I would agree with them because although the Maine Coon originates in the European cats they've been in America for 400 or more years. Do all Maine Coons like to be cuddled and be that close to their human caregiver? No, not all of them as each cat has their own i...

Is this a Maine Coon?

Image
Is this a Maine Coon? Probably! Is this chunky-looking, dog-like, all-white cat with odd-eyes a Maine Coon? I don't know for sure because no information is provided with this picture. However, I am pretty confident that this is a young Maine Coon cat.  The assessment is based upon two main elements of the cat's appearance: the large triangular ears which in this case are particularly large even for a Maine Coon cat, and the strong, square muzzle which is very typical of this highly popular cat breed. I've just noticed, by the way, that it appears that the cat's whiskers have been trimmed. I could be wrong but they look unusually short. Cat owners should never trim their cat's whiskers. Perhaps that is obvious to everybody but apparently it is not. Whiskers have a mass of nerves at their base to allow cats to detect minute changes even in the air current around them. They are a very useful part of their anatomy and they should not be modified in any way shape or f...

White Maine Coon with heterochromia iridum

Image
Heterochromia iridum means odd-eye colour in layperson's language. There are two cats in the picture as you can see. Both are totally white and both have odd-eye colour. They have the classic odd-eye colour which is one is blue and the other is gold-yellow. The cat in the background is not a Maine Coon in my view. If she is then she does not have the right type i.e. appearance to be a show cat because the muzzle is not strong enough and the ears are no lynx tipped. The cat in the foreground is very much a Maine Coon. Odd-eye colour is very common in all-white cats whether they are purebred or random bread. This is because the dominant white gene which removes pigmentation from the hair strands also removes pigmentation from one of the eyes leaving that eye blue. It is also claimed that inbreeding ("a lack of genetic diversity ") predisoposes animals to this condition. The blueness is caused by the refraction of light through the eye rather than by pigmentation in the ey...
