How much are breeding Maine Coon kittens?

One well-known Maine Coon breeder in the US King Klaudr Coons Cattery, usefully has a price list for their Maine Coon kittens, both those that are 'pet kittens' and those that are 'breeding kittens'. This is the cattery where they create the enormous European Maine Coons. These cats are going to be excellent I feel. Their prices may be higher than normal as a consequence.

They boldly state that breeding kitten prices start at $9000. Note the 'start at'. These are sold to wannabe cat breeders. What the purchaser gets is full TICA (The International Cat Association) registration and breeding rights.

The kitten comes with:

  • TICA registration.
  • Breeding rights.
  • Veterinary certificate.
  • Two pounds of vaccinations and dewormers.
  • A goody package.
  • All necessary documentation such as pedigree in a folder.
Pet kitten prices start at $2500. The prices tell us that buyers should beware of low prices as they are liable to be buying a non-purebred cat which undermines the whole process.

'Pet kittens' are sold as just that. The buyer can't breed from them. They have 'limited registration'. This means that they are pets only. TICA registration for these kittens indicates 'Not for Breeding'.

These kittens can be shown in the Altered Category at TICA shows. These kittens come with:
  • TICA registration.
  • Vet certificate.
  • Two pounds of vaccinations and dewormers.
  • A goody bag.
Well, there you are. I'd expect these prices to be fairly typical for a quality breeder. I won't, therefore, trawl the internet looking for alternative prices.

This breeder insists on a $500 deposit to reserve a kitten. Personally, I am against sending money upfront to someone you have not met for a product you don't have. You are exposed to scams. I am not suggesting that in this case. Not at all.

But it might be better to visit, see the cats and pay your deposit then after being reassured about the integrity of the breeder and the quality of the cats.

A visit might not be practical because of distance but it should be the first thought. Their cattery is located in Colorado. The ship at a cost of $400-$600.
