"What we browsing today hoomin?" Says Maine Coon to owner.

The word "hoomin" in the title is the feline pronunciation of the word "human" if you weren't absolutely sure. So we have a beautiful brown tabby-and-white Maine Coon interfering in the nicest possible way with his owner's computer work by lying across her hand and wrist while looking up at the monitor. It is a classic case of attention seeking or that is what the experts might say. Or, to be kinder, it is simply a cat wanting to be involved with what their human companion is doing. They want to share their human's activities which is perfectly normal. The only trouble is that it stops their human taking part in those activities.

It must be very nice, though, to have such a handsome purebred cat accompanying you on your computer. Computers are a favourite for domestic cats when it comes to attention seeking and interference. This is because when humans are on their computers they are fully focused, they aren't talking or interacting with their cat or anybody else for that matter. And it get a little bit irritating to the cat as he wants some action from his human companion. He wants his human to say something and do something with him. So he jumps in and forces some interaction such as you see in this photograph.

Another reason why computers are favourites of domestic cats is because they are often warm. It depends where the microprocessor and fan is but certainly laptop computers have warm keyboards or the area next to the keyboard is warm so cats like to lie on that area or be in contact with it. And we've all seen cats lying across keyboards. One reason for this might be that there is quite a lot of the scent of the cat's owner on the keyboard which will certainly be attractive to a domestic cat.

The brown-and-white, tabby Maine Coon cat is one of the favourites of this breed. They come in a whole range of coat types but the brown tabby is the original. That's quite important because the Maine Coon is essentially a barn cat; that is their origin. Going back to the first half of the 19th century, before they became show cats at the end of the 19th century, they were living in barns performing a job of work for their owner.
